Please tell us a bit about your denim origins and journey. And, what led you to embark on this project?
WeftSide was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2024 by three friends with extensive experience in the global fashion and denim industry. The brand was born out of a shared desire to create denim that embodies simplicity and stands apart in an industry driven by relentless growth and noise. Our journey is inspired by the concept of “the pleasure of slowness,” embracing the philosophy of denim—no more, no less. Always and (n)ever the same. We strive to bridge the legacy of the past with relevance for the present and the promise of the future. Additionally, as showcased in our flag collection, we aspire to collaborate with artists and creatives, infusing our products with artistic value and storytelling.
How does your supply chain work? How easy or tough will it be to scale it up – from the sourcing of natural materials, worn-out garments, deadstock, blankets, curtains, etc.?
WeftSide’s supply chain prioritises quality, sustainability, and ethical production practices, with manufacturing in Tunisia and Italy during low production intensity periods. This strategic approach reflects our commitment to “the pleasure of slowness” and allows us to maintain premium standards. Scaling up may present challenges due to our emphasis on responsibly sourced materials like organic cotton and deadstock, but our partnerships with dedicated weavers and mills make it achievable. The resell aspect of our brand, including our worn-ins, supports our sustainability ethos by giving garments a second life and extending their story.
We simplify stock management and facilitate seamless re-production by selecting only a few thoroughly chosen fabrics that age beautifully over time and using them repeatedly. This practice aligns with our sustainable philosophy: if something works well, why change it? The same principle applies to our trims, where consistent use of metal trims, threads, and labels helps streamline inventory and re-production.
