Chemical & dyes. The two words together spark thoughts of everything that could not be good for humans or earth. What percentage of these used in the textile-apparel industry can really be said to be human and earth friendly?
Only 2% of textile industry adheres to safe and sustainable production norms such as following banned amines and chemicals regulations, optimising utilities, and appropriate wastewater treatment and discharge.

Sustainability, circular economy – the world is increasingly gravitating towards these two production methods. By what percentage has there been a hike in terms of R&D spends at Archroma?
Archroma has a global R&D network with dedicated expert 12 Competence Centres located all over the world, and with local expert representatives in the main markets, including India. Archroma continues to invest significant resources, people, and technology at these Centres to research and develop new state of the art technologies.

What about nex-gen dyes, bio-based dyes. What is Archroma doing in these two fields?
Archroma has launched several breakthroughs over the past few years, such as the aniline-free Denisol Pure Indigo at the core of our Pure Indigo Flow system, or the plant-based EarthColors colourants made from biomass waste, which is used in our Love Nature X Earthcolors system. Further, we have entered into a strategic partnership with Stony Creek to produce and bring to the market Stony Creek’s IndiGold high-performance plant-based pre-reduced indigo at scale. Archroma will produce the first batches of IndiGold in Salvatierra, Mexico. The company will support Stony Creek Colors through its manufacturing and logistics capabilities, and its expertise in denim dyeing with customers using pre-reduced indigo.

What is the attitude/response of players in the processing segment in the textile value chain to sustainability and circularity, specially among small scale enterprises in the geographies that you look into?
The textile industry is working towards sustainability driven by government initiatives for pollution control and sustainable production. We are supporting customers through products and systems which are safe to use and consume, which will help them optimise utilities and improve their production efficiency. Through our Sustainable Systems we help customers enhance the value of their products and stand out against competitors, both local and global.

Has Archroma stepped into ingredient branding for itself?
We have our NFC enabled EarthColor tags for complete tracking from the source to the consumer and partnered with various global brands such as Patagonia, G-Star RAW, Esprit etc.

How small-biz friendly is Archroma in terms of pricing?
We create value for our customers through systems and processes which improve their productivity and customer can calculate value benefits using one way tool.
