New Alliance to Work on Policy Matters Related to Textile-to-Textile Recycling

In a much-needed crucial step forward to create a more resilient, sustainable, circular textile industry, 4 leading recyclers have initiated a textile-to-textile recyclers alliance that would fight for policy changes in a strong voice at key policy discussions.

Long Story, Cut Short
  • The alliance will act as a hub for advocacy, collaboration, and joint action—ensuring that T2T recyclers’ interests are not just heard but embedded in future textile policies, in the EU and beyond.
  • It will look to promote T2T recycled content and recyclability as core requirements in the ESPR ecodesign requirements for textiles.
  • The recyclers leading the way are Circ, Circulose, RE&UP Recycling Technologies and Syre.
A hub for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy, the association would ensure that T2T recyclers' interests are well-represented in policy discussions.

A T2T Alliance spearheaded by leading textile-to-textile recyclers has been formed to remove barriers that hinder the growth and scalability of the T2T industry and amplify their voice in the European Union's policy ecosystem.

This pioneering industry association led by key players — Circ, Circulose, RE&UP Recycling Technologies and Syre — is committed to advocating for textile-to-textile recyclers’ perspective in EU legislation and policies; supporting the development of new legal requirements mandating textile-to-textile recycled content in new textile products in the context of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR); remove barriers that hinder the growth and scalability of the T2T industry.

  • A hub for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy, the association would ensure that T2T recyclers' interests are well-represented in policy discussions. It will act as a hub for advocacy, collaboration, and joint action — ensuring that T2T recyclers’ interests are not just heard but embedded in future textile policies, in the EU and beyond.
  • The launch comes at a pivotal moment for the sector, with the work in the EcoDesign Forum kicking off and the European Commission’s technical team formulating ESPR eco-design rules. The T2T Alliance has provided its expert input on the Commission's latest report, which addresses incorporating recycled content and recyclability as core ecodesign requirements for textile apparel.

As a crucial step forward in creating a more sustainable, circular textile industry , the Alliance will advocate for:

  • Promote T2T recycled content and recyclability as core requirements in the ESPR ecodesign requirements for textiles.
  • Supporting a closed loop textile recycling approach which includes post-industrial, pre-consumer and post-consumer waste.
  • Clarify misconceptions about the textile recycling industry in the report (for example, by debunking the assumption that allowing post-industrial waste to fulfill recycled content targets would incentivise its overproduction).
  • Advocate for a wide range of verification methods for tracing recycled material.
