Stage Set for Dornbirn-Global Fiber Congress (GFC)

Come 14 September and the city of Dornbirn in west Austria will play host to the 61st edition of the Dornbirn-Global Fiber Congress (GFC) 2022 — a three-day showcase of fibre innovations and deep dive sessions on sustainability, circular economy, recycling, smart functional surfaces, nonwovens, apparel & sports.

More than 200 companies and institutes would be present at the 61st Dornbirn-GFC 2022. The three-day event gets under way on 14 September.

Live and online: The organisers, the nonprofit Austrian Fibers Institute, have announced an offer of an online on-demand package with recordings of lectures and panel discussions which would be accessible for two weeks after the congress.

The full Dornbirn experience would include:

  • high scientific content of the lectures, with an opportunity to interact with the presenter on the spot;
  • personal meetings with the community, even use the dedicated deep dive rooms;
  • networking and gaining business opportunities and active matchmaking supported;
  • lecturers evening;
  • mayoress evening and a fashion show;
  • and, the awesome Dornbirn atmosphere at the special area 'Lake of Constance'.

The programme: The main programme of the 61st Dornbirn GFC includes 94 technical presentations in the categories:

  • Fibre innovation;
  • Sustainability & circular economy & recycling;
  • Smart, functional surface modification;
  • Nonwovens;
  • Apparel & sports.

Galaxy of speakers: The event will feature a star line-up of speakers. The opening remarks would be made by Friedrich Weninger, Managing Director, Dornbirn GFC/Austrian Fibers Institute.

Speakers on the inaugural day include, among others:

  • Robert van de Kerkhof; Chief Commercial Officer, Lenzing Group;
  • Fritz Vollrath; University of Oxford;
  • Thomas Riegler; PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The CEO panel on the opening day will include:

  • Georgia Parker; Director, Innovation Platform, Fashion for Good;
  • Gittan Schiöld; Chief Executive Officer, Paboco;
  • Yogi Dandapure; Vice-President, Raw Materials, Lululemon;

Young Scientist Award: A new competition has been launched for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students who are working on innovative solutions to address the environmental challenges facing the textile industry. This is Lenzing’s new prize for research projects on ethical and sustainable fashion, and would be presented during the event.

The other awards: Two other awards would be given away during the event. The first is the Paul Schlack Prize 2022. Since 1971 the Paul Schlack Prize has been awarded at the Dornbirn-GFC to promote man-made fibre research at universities and research institutes. The Main Paul Schlack Prize would be awarded with € 3.000 — for an author of a theme from a university or research institute.
