Strong Global Engagement and Future-Focused Sourcing Momentum Defined the Close of Shanghai's Autumn Textile Fair

Over 100,000 visitors and more than 3,500 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions gathered in Shanghai across three days for the autumn edition of the Intertextile Apparel Fabrics fair. Four sourcing pillars spanning creativity, technical performance, responsible production and digital tools guided buyer discussions across 240,000 sq m at the National Exhibition and Convention Center.

Long Story, Cut Short
  • Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, Sweden and Thailand were among the newly exhibiting markets at this edition of the fair.
  • Suppliers presented functional textiles across multiple performance categories, with bio-based, recycled and traceability solutions gathered at the fair's dedicated sustainability zone.
  • AI-supported workflows, digital product development tools and a Trend Forum built around emotions and lifestyles ran across the fair's Textile Future programming this season.
Textile sourcing at this edition took into account blends of design, performance, sustainability and digital capability, with buyers assessing materials and meeting suppliers where all four converged.

Sourcing momentum across creativity, functional performance, responsible materials and digital capability drove three days of buyer activity in Shanghai as the autumn apparel textile fair closed on 27 August 2026. The fair, organisers said, catered to diverse sourcing needs through four pillars covering Fashion Forward, Performance Textiles, Sustainability and Textile Future, with combined effect across product categories rather than isolated tracks.

  • Functional fabric suppliers highlighted real-use performance across four themes covering thermal regulation, sustainability with comfort, moisture management and protection, alongside sustainable alternatives converting discarded materials into functional yarns.
  • The upgraded Functional Lab offered an application-driven setting for assessing fabrics, with its enhanced display area gathering samples and demonstrations covering airshift, waterproof, down-proof and down-inspection testing.
  • A forthcoming Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS) was introduced at the Econogy Hub sustainability zone, expanding scope to responsibly produced cellulosic lyocell, animal fibres, silk, wool and recycled synthetics.
  • The fair ran from 25 to 27 August 2026, co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry under CCPIT, and the China Textile Information Center.

THE FAIR AT A GLANCE: The autumn edition closed with themed showcases spanning design, performance, sustainability and digitalisation that shaped how visitors engaged with suppliers across the fairground. These themes organised a wide spectrum of exhibitor activity and gave structure to buyer discussions across the three-day programme. The fair ran alongside Yarn Expo Autumn, Chic and PH Value, with the venue hosting the entire apparel textile value chain.

  • The fair combined sourcing, product discovery and industry exchange across three days, with buyers assessing materials and solutions that balanced creativity, functionality, responsibility and efficiency.
  • It forms part of the Texpertise Network, a Messe Frankfurt textile business platform connecting over 500,000 industry participants through more than 60 international trade fairs across 15 countries.

ON THE SHOW FLOOR: Four sourcing pillars shaped what exhibitors presented throughout the autumn edition. Under Fashion Forward, suppliers presented seasonal collections, creative material concepts and design-led solutions that supported buyers' planning for upcoming product development. Responsible material and process innovations extended beyond the Econogy Hub, with suppliers presenting lower-impact production methods and alternatives to virgin petroleum-based products across multiple zones.

  • Prutex Nylon partnered with Invista to present high-performance materials and all-scenario fabric applications, including Prueco Ocean, a yarn converting discarded fishing nets into recycled nylon 6,6 polymer.
  • Smarter production management tools featured in the Innovation and Digital Solutions Zone, where Coats Digital was one of the exhibitors presenting workflow and product development technologies.
  • The nearby Pet Boutique display area highlighted new lifestyle-led applications for textile innovation, positioned alongside the digital solutions programming under the Textile Future pillar.
  • The fringe programme offered fairgoers additional context for sourcing decisions, covering trends, sustainability, functional innovation, digital transformation and supply chain development topics.

GLOBAL PARTICIPATION: International suppliers remained central to the fair's identity, with country and region pavilions, international zones and overseas exhibitors contributing to a diversified exhibitor base. New exhibiting countries and regions this edition included Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, Sweden and Thailand. Trade buyers from multiple markets cited new materials, supplier connections, market insight and targeted business matching as sourcing outcomes.

  • A representative of Côte d'Ivoire attended to promote the country's cotton and textile sector and seek investors for its cotton value chain, noting visitor interest in West African cotton.
  • A Thai buyer said the fair covered a more complete industrial chain than other exhibitions, allowing accurate capture of the latest industry directions and future market trends.
  • A French buyer found relevant knit, sportswear and outerwear fabrics and noted that more suppliers at the show now held certifications required for the French market, reducing extra effort.
  • An Australian buyer attended to source new suppliers, discover innovations and fresh design ideas for product development, and reported finding new trimmings and print patterns for upcoming products.
  • Confirmed upcoming shows include Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textiles and Textile Technologies (Ho Chi Minh City, February 2027) and Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Spring Edition (Shanghai, March 2027).

Feedback at the show has been fantastic. Buyers here are looking for sustainable functional alternatives, and to be able to add our performance capabilities – like cooling or moisture movement – into Prueco Ocean yarn is unique. It's great to be next to The Cube, and to see what we're doing in terms of innovation is also trending.\

This time, we did something really special to the Trend Forum. Rather than planning the themes around stories and trends, we focused more on emotions and feelings – how people feel, how they live, and what they like to explore. The first-time collaboration with Notes Shanghai fits perfectly with this season, allowing visitors to experience the overall feeling of the Trend Forum and understand the story we are trying to tell.

Intertextile Apparel is a highly influential industry platform for our company, and its concurrent seminar programme gave us a valuable opportunity to share our corporate philosophy and technical expertise in recycled polyester. The fair's fringe events create an efficient platform for dialogue across the supply chain, helping companies exchange insights and connect with potential partners.
