Lower-impact fibre lines stood alongside performance-led solutions on the exhibitor floor at the concluded Shanghai fair, which drew approximately 600 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions and nearly 22,000 visitors from 110 represented markets. Held alongside Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition, CHIC and PH Value, Yarn Expo Autumn 2026 linked upstream fibre and yarn innovation to fabric development, garment production and fashion-market demand.
- Notable displays ranged from 100% recycled PET yarns and plant-based polyester to traceable recycled metallic yarns and regenerated polyester produced from PET bottles and textile scrap.
- The wide product offering enabled buyers to evaluate origin, processing capabilities and sustainability credentials, supporting more informed sourcing decisions across recycled, bio-based and performance-led fibre categories.
- Industry players from across the textile spectrum made new business connections in Shanghai, and that exchange supported the commercialisation of innovation.
MATERIAL LINES: Product lines from fibre producers in Asia and Europe showed that lower-impact solutions could still deliver performance, aesthetics and traceability, with international and domestic exhibitors both represented. Beyond the individual exhibitor stands, the fair's fringe programme ran the Tongkun display zone, organised by the China Chemical Fibre Association, alongside a separate set of themed activities on materials innovation and its applications.
- Thailand's Indorama Ventures showed its deja range of 100% recycled PET yarns among the notable international recycled-material lines on view at the fair.
- Japan's Toray Industries brought plant-based polyester and its Nanodesign technology to the fair, one of several international displays covering bio-based as well as recycled fibre routes.
- The Lurex Company of the UK brought traceable recycled metallic yarns to Shanghai, a metallic-yarn entry distinct from the polyester-based lines shown elsewhere among the notable displays.
- Domestic exhibitor Hangzhou Benma Chemfibre and Spinning showed regenerated polyester made from PET bottles and textile scrap, with applications spanning fashion, activewear, home textiles and nonwovens.
- The New Fibre New World textile materials innovation activities explored four themes including temperature-regulating fibre innovation and resource recycling and reuse, highlighting sustainable material development, greener production and next-generation applications.
SOURCING ORIGINS: Origin and processing came into view alongside product innovation, as exhibitors illustrated the cross-border networks behind today's textile supply chains. The returning Uzbekistan Pavilion, comprising eight exhibitors, highlighted the country's vertically integrated cotton-textile sector, which runs from domestic cultivation through to weaving and garment production, and covered stages of the textile chain that sit well upstream of yarn production itself.
- Vietnam's Importeer International supplied imported cotton drawn from Australia, Brazil, India and the United States, and carried virgin and recycled synthetics alongside the natural fibre.
- Egyptian Co For Flax And Its Products showcased local flax that had been processed into fibres and yarns for export, a natural-fibre offering set apart from the synthetic lines.
NEXT ON THE CALENDAR: Two further dates are already fixed for the 2027 calendar. A Vietnamese edition will open in Ho Chi Minh City in late February, and three co-located Spring editions covering fibre, yarn, fabric and home textiles will follow in Shanghai in early March. Yarn Expo Autumn itself is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT.
- The Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textiles and Textile Technologies (VIATT) will run from 24 to 26 February 2027 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center.
- Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition, Yarn Expo Spring and Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Spring Edition will run from 10 to 12 March 2027 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.

This is our first time exhibiting at Yarn Expo Autumn. We are a flax manufacturer offering a range of 100% flax products, from flax planting through to spinning materials. Our company sources products such as DTY, nylon, polyester fibre, cotton yarn and other textile products for markets including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Peru. More than 50 of our suppliers exhibit here, making it an important annual opportunity to meet them face to face, maintain our business relationships and review products directly. I consider this the most organised exhibition I have visited. This is why it remains an essential sourcing platform for our business each year.

Our trading company sources TC yarns, 100% cotton yarns and more for the Pakistani and Canadian markets. The fair offers a very wide selection, with exhibitors from different countries, and I have met many good suppliers here. Sustainability is also an important part of our sourcing, and we have found recycled-polyester yarn suppliers with GRS certification at the fair. This gives us access to both the conventional and recycled yarn products we are looking for. I believe there are opportunities to develop business with the suppliers we have met, and we would definitely consider returning.
