‘The Past, Present, and Future’ was veritably captured as a rich heritage, ancient crafts and a contemporary vibe jostled along the Nile, basking under the inspirational gaze of millenia-old pyramids, temples, tombs, palaces and more as the first ever Egypt Fashion Week concluded on a high, 12-15 May.

The EFDC is committed to help students, emerging designers, established designers and industry members at various stages of their businesses through support initiatives and programmes. These include sourcing scholarships, internships, work placement, mentorships, promotion, business support, year round workshops, events and awards.

The first-ever Egypt Fashion Week, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning &
Economic Development, the Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities and the Ministry of Agriculture
and Land Reclamation, set a new standard for fashion in Egypt aiming to cement its place within the regional and international fashion week calendar.

As the EFW proudly celebrated the heritage & civilisation of its land, the inspiration came from its culture for design and an acknowledgement of agriculture as the basis on which ancient Egyptians built an empire and a civilisation that throughout history influenced the world. Yet there was not much dwelling on the past but rather a look the present, the pool of creatives, craftspeople, and industry leaders that have forged a contemporary Egyptian DNA.

On 13-14 May the Agriculture Museum of Egypt, opened its doors for Egypt Fashion Week after five years of extensive renovations. After the Museum of Agriculture of Budapest, the second most important museum of its kind in the world showcased runway shows and exhibitions of over 70 Egyptian fashion, accessory and jewellery designers and Egyptian and international fashion councils, schools and organisations.

The EFDC seeks to identify ways to help businesses leverage new technologies as a means to increase efficiency at every stage of the industry: research, design, branding, production, sales, retail.

At the VIP opening night, guests were treated to the first ever fashion show within the halls of the Egyptian Museum downtown, featuring established and emerging Egyptian designers curated by American stylist Julie Matos followed by a gala dinner created by star chef Karim AbdelRahman of Avec Karim.

The focus is on the future, projecting a vision and direction that enables the country to combine its unique resources of inspiration of over 5000 years, and craftsmanship with today’s know-how and fast-paced technology driven trends, that will help them emerge as a strong player in the global fashion fraternity.

No effort was spared to introduce the international guests to a true Egyptian luxury experience.
Solo acts by renowned artists Bash and Harfoush set the mood for a contemporary oriental
night. A special collaboration by famous Egyptian designer Hany El Behairy and artist Hossam
Dirar resulted in a couture gown that graced the entrance.
