Jaipur, India: India need not come out with a National Textile Policy as the sector continues to be in focus with the launch of the PM MITRA mega textile parks and other such initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana V Jardosh.
- “The Prime Minister has just announced that the PM MITRA (PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) mega textile parks would be set up in seven states to boost the textiles sector in line with 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) vision,” the Union Minister told texfash.com on the sidelines of the concluding session of the third edition of the Global Textiles Conclave (GTC) in Jaipur.
Mega Textile Parks: Taking to Twitter, Modi today announced: “PM MITRA mega textile parks will boost the textiles sector in line with 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) vision. Glad to share that PM MITRA mega textile parks would be set up in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP and UP… The PM MITRA mega textile parks will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for the textiles sector, attracts investment of crores and create lakhs of jobs. It will be a great example of 'Make in India' and 'Make For the World’.”
- The Government had approved the setting up of 7 PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks to develop worldclass infrastructure with an outlay of ₹44,450 million for a period up to 2027–28.
- “The guidelines in respect of the scheme have been published and there have been multiple interactions with State Governments for inviting proposals. In response 18 proposals from 13 States have been received,” the ministry had said in an year-ender review.
Allocation for Textiles: Earlier, the Union Minister of State, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Thursday, informed that the allocation of textiles sector in the 2023–24 budget was ₹43,893.4 million. This is higher than the revised estinate (RE) of 2022–23 which was ₹35,796.1 million.
- The government has increased the Budget outlay of Amended Technology Upgradation Fund (ATUF) from ₹6,500 million in RE 2022–23 to ₹9,000 million in BE (Budget estimate) 2023–24. On other steps for the development of textiles sector, initiatives and schemes/programmes of the Ministry of Textiles cover all key areas like research, innovation and development; textiles infrastructure development; education, training and skill development, market development, exports promotion, improvements on quality controls and standards etc.
- Some of the major schemes implemented by the government include: PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA Parks), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Silk Samagra, Development of Handicraft Sector, Development of Handloom Sector, SAMARTH – Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector, Development of Jute Textile Scheme, Integrated Wool Development Programme (IWDP), and National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM) etc. These schemes and programmes are oriented towards promotion and development of Textile Sector on a pan-India basis.
