A new Designers Area has launched at Munich Fabric Start's 30th anniversary edition, bringing textile innovation to the intersection of art, craftsmanship and technology. The international textile trade show runs from 14 to 16 July at the MOC Munich, presenting five Autumn.Winter 27/28 fabric trends under the leitmotif "TASTE." alongside a consolidated three-hall layout at the venue.
- The Designers Area will present forward-looking ideas, innovative design approaches and the perspectives of a young generation of designers across art, craftsmanship and technology.
- Five fabric trends for Autumn.Winter 27/28 — Quiet Disruption, Ceremonial, Drifting, Intimate and Inheritance — have been united under the leitmotif "TASTE." across the trend forums.
- The hall change comes against the backdrop of the long-term re-letting of Hall 4 by the MOC Munich owner, with the new layout designed to sharpen the show's focus and ease of navigation.
INSIDE THE LAUNCH: The Designers Area is Munich Fabric Start's new curatorial addition for its anniversary year, operating as a platform for forward-looking ideas, innovative design approaches and the role of technology in textile creation. It traces the journey from fabric development and material selection through to the final design product, presenting the work and perspectives of an emerging generation of designers.
- French artist Julien Jaca contributes two large-scale textile works, "Children of Sky" and "Riders of Silence", which create a new atmospheric ambience as striking textile installations within the Designers Area.
- Richard Nadler's "Sanctum Carnis" is a monumental piece of embroidery that explores the connection between AI-generated imagery and traditional textile craftsmanship.
- Munich Fabric Start is developing an international video art collaboration to provide further impetus at the intersection of art, design and materiality.
- The Designers Area runs alongside "30 Years. 30 Stories.", a storytelling project introduced as another special feature of the anniversary edition.
FIVE TRENDS: Five fabric trends for Autumn.Winter 27/28 will be presented under the leitmotif "TASTE." at Munich Fabric Start, each addressing a distinct design and cultural direction. Across all five, tactile surfaces, innovative finishes, handcrafted details and the reinterpretation of classic materials define the season, with fabrics reflecting a collective desire for authenticity, meaning, belonging and individuality.
- Quiet Disruption represents a new form of subtle resistance, combining deconstructed heritage with modern functionality.
- Ceremonial explores the longing for rituals, spirituality and emotional depth, reinterpreting elegance through opulent, expressive materials.
- Drifting reflects hybrid lifestyles, uniting technical performance qualities with familiar traditions across a range of wearing contexts.
- Intimate focuses on closeness, comfort and sensory experiences, defining luxury through tactile qualities and a sustained attention to personal well-being.
- Inheritance explores heritage, craftsmanship and cultural memory, translating textile traditions into a contemporary design language.
THE VENUE CHANGE: Munich Fabric Start has consolidated its footprint to Halls 1, 2 and 3 of the MOC Munich, with Hall 4 now under long-term re-letting by the venue owner. The optimised hall layout brings together relevant market segments within a more compact space, and the three exhibition halls and atrium spaces at the MOC continue to provide an excellent setting for staging Europe's leading textile trade show.
- The consolidated footprint reduces distances between market segments, allowing visitors to move between Bluezone, Keyhouse and The Source with greater efficiency.
- The show's 'show-in-show' sections — Bluezone, Keyhouse and The Source — continue to operate within the new three-hall format at the MOC Munich.
- View Premium Selection for Autumn.Winter 27/28 is scheduled for 8 and 9 September at the MOC Munich.
