As the global textile & clothing industry undergoes a step change characterised by sourcing shifts, sustainability and digitalisation, the eleventh edition of the Asian Textile Conference (ATEXCON) by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) , set to kickstart on 31 August, will discuss all of this and more under the theme ‘2025 & Beyond Asia’s Global Hub for Textile Manufacturing & Consumers’.
- The two-day event at Coimbatore, the textile capital of South India, will deliberate on various issues ranging from scaling and enabling sustainable resilient textile & apparel supply chains, to the need for regional cooperation and partnerships for sustainable development, the emerging trends and opportunities in the manmade fibre based value added textiles including technical textiles, trends, developments and innovations in home textiles, to managing financial risks in the sector.
FOCUS ASIA: To put it in perspective, as WTO places textiles and clothing ranks among the top five manufactured goods trade globally, Asia has emerged as a major sourcing hub for international brands and retailers.
- As of 2021, Asia holds 65% market share of the nearly $800 bn world trade.
- The combined GDP of 50 Asian countries represents about 40% of the global GDP, says the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
- The continent is home to 60% of humanity with an estimated per capita textile consumption of 14 kgs [International Cotton Advisory Committee]. The vast population with changing lifestyles will remain a key demand driver for consumer and technical textiles in future.
- Asia is reaping the demographic dividend.
- Textile and apparel manufacturing companies in Asia are embracing new ESG-driven business models. Technological upgradation to improve resource efficiency has become a norm. Huge investments are being made in circular production systems.
ATEXCON 2023: The 11th edition of the ATEXCON in Coimbatore will provide just that conducive forum for policymakers and the industry to collaborate and find the way forward to usher the Asian textile industry into a sustainable future through 2025 and beyond.
- It will bring together leading players of the Asian textile industry, global input suppliers and service providers to deliberate on key areas of business, including regional as well as global issues concerning this sector.
- The conference will also focus on the emerging opportunities through cross country cooperation.
- Indian Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal will inaugurate the ATEXCON as the chief guest and address the industry captains.
