New Trade Disorder

Trump Tariffs and the Global Textiles & Fashion Industry

Welcome to a New World Trade Order. US President Donald Trump has walked his talk —  the promise made during his election campaigns. Trade pundits failed to read the obvious, failed to prepare for what should have been expected and the reeling from the ‘shock and awe’ is as chaotic as it was during Covid. From a baseline 10% to a steep hike going up to as much as 49% (Cambodia and Lesotho), the tiz in the supply chains will continue to roil as the textile-fashion-footwear industry recalibrates to the new challenges. The texfash Spotlight this April is on the rock and roll that the tariffs will make industry dance to.

The Blue Streak

Designing Denim the Fashionable and Sustainable Way

Come December and on the 4th the PV Denim Fashion District at Milano will be happy blues for two days as it decodes the trends for Spring-Summer 26 and showcases not just designers but players from across the supply-value chain — yarns, fabrics, denim weavers, garment manufacturers & finishers, accessory & component makers, technology, and more. There will be a total of 70 exhibitors from 14 countries.

That week will also feature over ten brands, young designers, and rising stars in the denim industry. texfash speaks to six avant-garde designers with an almost all-new design vocabulary for the blues.

State of Leather 2024

Has to be Leather All the Way!

The leather industry has yet again released a manifesto urging the forthcoming climate COP29 to to recognise the cyclical, climate-efficient nature of leather and its potential for a positive contribution to reducing the climate impacts of consumer products. If consumers are not told the true story of leather, they may simply opt for cheaper, short-lived synthetic products, driving consumption of fossil fuels and waste, it exhorted. texfash turns the Spotlight on leather this week to highlight the “nonsensical claims of agenda groups,” as it probes some issues, gleans more on some innovations working to make this natural material more planet-friendly, and a lot more.
