India has extended the implementation timeline for its Cotton Bales Quality Control Order after facing sustained opposition from the ginning industry. The decision comes as industry bodies argued that meeting Bureau of Indian Standards requirements would necessitate substantial investments in modern equipment that many mills currently lack.
The Cotton Association of India has joined the nationwide call to boycott Türkiye and urged the cotton trading community “to consider stopping” all trade with Türkiye and explore alternative options to suit “our nation's interest.”
The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has released its May estimate of the cotton crop for the season 2021–22 beginning from 1 October 2021. The association has further reduced its cotton crop estimate for the 2021–22 season by 8.31 lakh bales to 315.32 lakh bales of 170 kg each from its previous estimate of 323.63 lakh bales of 170 kg each.
