The split of global GHG emissions between sectors can be analysed to identify where and how emissions reductions policies should be tailored. GHG emissions from the material production sector – resource extraction and processing of raw materials into major materials including iron and steel, aluminium, cement, chemical products, and pulp and paper – is estimated to account for approximately 25% of global emissions.
