A compostable leather-like fabric made from mycelium has reached prototype handbag scale through a pulp-based production route. The resulting fabric breaks down in water within 28 days and completely disintegrates under industrial composting conditions, offering a compostable alternative to both animal-derived leather and petroleum-based vegan materials.
