FRANKFURT, GERMANY: From 21st to 24th April 2026, MIC Spa, a long-standing Italian company specialized in the production of high-quality knitting yarns will be present at Techtextil Frankfurt (Hall 12.0, Stand D55). The company is exhibiting in collaboration with Shima Seiki Italia, the Italian subsidiary of the Japanese world leader in flat knitting machines.During the exhibition, MIC presents an evolved vision of yarn, viewed not only as a textile element but also as a technical and functional component. The true protagonist is the EXTE 2.7 yarn, used to create items produced directly on Shima Seiki machines: technical gloves designed with high-performance elastic yarns that combine comfort, durability, and mechanical precision.
This application is embedded in a project jointly developed by Shima Seiki and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa, which resulted in MUSE: an automated glove and soft robotic device designed to support hand motor functions. The system integrates textile-based pneumatic actuators within a wearable structure, mechanically programmed thanks to Wholegarment technology and the use of special yarns developed by MIC. The actuators generate biomimetic forces that facilitate finger opening and closing, concretely demonstrating how yarn can evolve into an advanced technological element.
In this context, EXTE fully represents MIC's innovation: a range of yarns devised for performance optimization, available in different counts and gauges, with various elasticity and resilience levels, designed for both technical and aesthetic applications.MIC offers a comprehensive range of yarns made from various raw materials, including polyester, cotton, polyamide, and polycotton, available in different formats, treatments, and colors. Stocks are continuously monitored to guarantee production continuity, while the STOCK SERVICE ensures 450 always-available colors held in the warehouse, ready for immediate shipment worldwide. This innovative capability is the result of a strong industrial tradition, with origins dating back to 1911 and the beginning of the Cumerlato family’s textile activities in the Vicenza area. This legacy continued in 1976 with the foundation of Manifattura Italiana Cucirini.
