A collaborative research by six universities has come up with ‘SWEET’ — inkjet-printed, eco-friendly e-textiles that shows that wearable electronic textiles can be both sustainable and biodegradable.

Two sets of experiments have shown that biobased fibres like viscose and lyocell present a greater hazard than conventional polymers used in equivalent applications.

Research at the Universities of Bristol and Bath has led to the creation of low-power interactive, digital clothing which senses and captures movements much more accurately than is possible using current phones and smart watches, while preserving the pervasive processes and systems used for manufacturing of everyday garments.
