The figures on these pages are the official indices for textiles and apparel: the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and the Consumer Price Index (CPI), published by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), and the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), published by the Office of the Economic Adviser, DPIIT. We update them on the evening each new release comes out.
A figure shown here can differ from the same figure printed earlier in a press release, a report or another publication. These are the reasons.
Each figure carries its status (Quick estimate, Provisional or Final). When the source revises a figure, we replace it with the revised one. So a figure quoted before a revision will differ from the one shown here.
Year-on-year changes for IIP and CPI are shown as the source publishes them. Where the source leaves one blank, we leave it blank.
Indices are shown to the decimals the source publishes (IIP and WPI one decimal; CPI base 2024 two decimals, CPI base 2012 one decimal). Percentage changes are shown to two decimals (IIP one decimal). A figure rounded differently elsewhere can look slightly different.
Each index has moved to a new base year: IIP and WPI from 2011-12 to 2022-23, CPI from 2012 to 2024. The old series have ended and are shown as they last stood (IIP to March 2026, CPI to December 2025, WPI to April 2026). Old and new series are never joined or mixed in one table, so figures on the two bases cannot be compared directly.
MoSPI did not publish base 2012 CPI item indices for March to May 2020 (the COVID-19 lockdown). The yearly averages of those items for 2019-20 and 2020-21 are therefore incomplete and left blank. Total clothing includes MoSPI's own estimates for April and May 2020 (marked Imputed), so its 2020-21 average is shown.
The release date on a report is the scheduled date. If a release comes out later than scheduled, the date is corrected on the report.
